A CATI system allows data to be entered directly into a computerized database as interviews are conducted, providing a highly efficient and reliable system of data collection. In addition to reducing the cost and time necessary to conduct surveys, a CATI system significantly reduces the possibility of data entry errors, thus increasing the accuracy of data entry.

Innovative Concepts' CATI system:

  • Eliminates the need for paper forms, and reduces the responsibility of the interviewer to monitor the order in which questions are asked. This allows for easy administration of surveys with conditional branching, as well as items requiring a random-order administration sequence.
  • Eliminates the possibility of missed questions, and will not accept any value outside the range of acceptable responses. These features substantially reduce the possibility for interviewer and coder errors.
  • Provides on-screen instructions for interviewers as required, and on-screen "fill" display options for items with variable values and ranges.
  • Allows for the entry of open-ended responses, verbatim text, and notes.
  • Has the ability to interrupt an interview in mid-course and resume the interview at a later time.
  • Has the ability to move backward and forward to enable the interviewer to change prior and subsequent entries if necessary.
  • Eliminates the need for subsequent (post-survey) data entry, as responses to questions are keypunched into an electronic database as interviews are conducted.
  • Enables data to be available for analysis immediately upon completion of each project.
